Sound Quality

I found the sound on the Rockville RGP122k to be adequate.  The speakers themselves are plenty loud and produce a clean crisp sound.  I did notice the system as delivered lacks bass in my opinion.  So certain types of music with a lot of bass can sound a little off if played at a high volume.  This can be solved if a sub woofer is added to the system and in my opinion makes all the difference.  I am a big bass head though so if you don’t listen to music with a lot of bass you should be fine.

This system is meant for small events so if you want to use in a large space I would suggest buying a higher end system.  Should have no problems in any room of an ordinary house or in a average size patio outdoors.  Any venue larger than this then you might have some problems hearing.

What Consumers Say

Most consumers are satisfied with the sound quality and the build quality.  Many DJ’s have bought this as a starter system and have been satisfied with the results in a small area.  Also customers like the flexibility this system has in playing music from different sources.  The ease of setup was also a big bonus among consumers.  Finally consumers also like the sound of voice that emits from the system.  Their is very little if no static or feedback when using the microphone.

There are some customers that have had issues with blowing the fuses or amp when playing music loudly.  From reading other people’s comments this is mostly like due to consumers having the wrong sound settings and then turning the volume up suddenly.  Some others complained about the lack of booming bass but usually most systems that having booming bass having a separate sub woofer.  Other than that it’s the usual complaints such as shipping, missing parts, and defective units.

Overall Impression

My impression of the Rockville RPG122K is that it would make a good Karaoke system.  The RPG122K produces good sound when singing or speaking into the microphone which is idea when it comes to Karaoke.  It’s easy to setup and configure and sounds great in small indoor or outdoor areas.  Which is probably the reason a lot of DJ’s use this as a starter system to take to parties for either Karaoke or just playing music.  This unit would also make a good PA system so it is definitely versatile and could therefore meet many needs.

We had a lot of fun with this karaoke system and it produced decent results in my opinion.  If it had the capability to lower the sound on vocals or even have auto-tune this be a great karaoke machine in my opinion.  If you have dedicated musical tracks for karaoke then this is not necessary. It’s easy to setup, sounds good, is somewhat portable so it fills a lot of the boxes for a karaoke system for me.

I love a lot of bass and that’s what disappointed me the most with this system.  Although the bass isn’t terrible it sounds kinda flat when music with a lot of bass plays.  You could also easily add a sub woofer to make Rockville RPG122K sound exceptional but then you might have to compare the total price to that of a higher end system and see what makes sense.

In my opinion this is a solid karaoke machine.  Could be a little expensive or too big for a home karaoke system for some people though.  This unit is idea for a DJ that offers karaoke.  For what you get it’s not badly priced and can be a lot of fun.
